The Return of the King
"Perhaps you've come to explain this. Perhaps you've come to tell me why my son is dead."
"You think you are wise, Mithrandir. Yet for all your subtleties you have not wisdom. Do you think the eyes of the White Tower are blind? I have seen more than you know. With your left hand you would use me as a shield against Mordor, and with your right you would seek to subplant me. I know who rides with Theoden of Rohan. Oh yes, word has reached my ears of this Aragorn son of Arathorn, and I tell you now, I will not bow to this ranger from the north, the last of a ragged house long bereft of lordship."
"Rule of Gondor is mine, and no others!"
The Two Towers
"Where is he? Where is Gondor's finest, where is my first born?"
"A-ha! They say you vanquished the enemy almost single handed!"
"But for Faramir this city would still be standing. Were you not entrusted to protect it?"
"You let the enemy walk in and take it on a whim. Always you cast a poor reflection on me."
"Do not trouble me with Faramir, I know his uses and they are few. We have more urgent things to speak of. Elrond of Rivendell has called a meeting. He will not say why but I have guessed it's purpose. It is rumored that the weapon of the enemy has been found."
"...fallen into the hands of the Elves. Everyone will try to claim it. Men, Dwarves, wizards, we cannot let that happen. This thing must come to Gondor."
"It's dangerous I know. Ever the ring will seek to corrupt the hearts of lesser men but you, you are strong! And our need is great. It is our blood that is being spilled, our people are dying. Sauron is biding his time. He is massing great armies. He will return, and when he does we will be powerless to stop him! You must go. Bring me back this mighty gift."
"Would you deny your own father?"
"You? Ha, oh I see. A chance for Faramir, captain of Gondor, to show his quality. I think not. I trust this mission only to your brother, the one who will not fail me."
